CanyonTone Stain - Biltmore Hotel & Intel Corporation

Biltmore Hotel
Pool Cabanas & Villas • Scottsdale, Arizona
This world-renowned resort hotel incorporates a distinctive Frank Lloyd Wright design on the exterior concrete titles. In order to reproduce the original design on expansion and remodel work, the design was duplicated using a mold, so that it can be reproduced off site or in place depending on project requirements. Working closely with hotel management, facilities maintenance and project design personnel, UNITED developed “Biltmore Tan” to blend with the original Frank Lloyd Wright color and finish.

Washington Point Office Building

Due to inconsistencies with the integral color used in the precast panels for this facility, they were unacceptable to the Owner. CanyonTone Stain - National Cemetery of the Pacific & Physician Office Building - Queens Medical Center

National Cemetery of the Pacific
Honolulu • Oahu • Hawaii
Punchbowl Crate, overlooking Pearl Harbor on Oahu, is home to the National Cemetery of the Pacific, which includes a World War II Memorial. Unfortunately, many of the marble panels that made up the memorial had discolored, exhibiting unsightly stains. A ceremony honoring the 50 year anniversary of Armistice Day, which included a visit by President Clinton, required that something be done to restore the natural beauty of the stone. Engraved into the marble panels are the names of all U.S. Servicemen and Women who were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. A major concern of the U.S. Depart ment of Defense, who maintains the cemetery, was that nothing be used that would fill in or in any way diminish the integrity of the engraved names. On-site samples were applied, in conjunction with extensive testing performed at the Department of Defense Laboratories in Washington, DC. The testing...read more

Elastuff - Marin County Civic Center

Marin County Civic Center
San Rafael, California
This unique building was the final commission accepted by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1957, prior to his death. Since it is listed in the State and Federal Historic Registries, there could be no changes that would alter the original design. At least three different roof coating systems had been applied over the years, yet the roof leaked profusely. UNITED'S Elastuff 101/102 System was specified because of its ability to adhere to the existing coatings, as well as to the original concrete deck substrate. After pressure washing, an extensive amount of detail work was required on the 3.6 miles of ornamental concrete ridge bars and 680 circular and scallop-shaped details. There were also 509 trellis openings and 570 scupper spouts, many of which were severely spalled. One coat of Elastuff 101, followed by two coats of Elastuff 102, were applied to provide the desired finished result–recapturing the original,...read more

Elastuff - McNary Dam Power House

McNary Dam Power House
Columbia River, WA
McNary Dam is a 1.4 mile (2.2 km) long hydroelectric dam that spans the Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border. The dam joins Umatilla County, Oregon with Benton County, Washington and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' McNary Lock and Dam office.

The original 125,000 square foot (11,617 m²) BUR with gravel roof over the main powerhouse was replaced in 1985 with a spray-applied polyurethane foam (PUF) system. The new PUF was topcoated with UNITED COATINGS’ Elastuff 850, a high solids, fastcure polyurethane elastomer. A routine maintenance inspection 22 years later found very minimal damage to the roof system. Just a few small punctures were discovered, which were likely the result of mechanical damage, although the roof remained completely leak free. To insure the continued performance of the existing roof, the Corp of Engineers specified a 60 dry mil (1,524 micron) recoat...read more
